We wanted to address the confusion and questions surrounding the upcoming strike action and, more specifically, how exemptions will be allocated and the cycle of jobs.
Key Information
If you are on strike, you should:
- Remain on the picket line during picket line hours, if outside of these hours, you should be on station or not at work at all, depending on your options.
- NOT be booked onto a vehicle
- NOT have a handheld radio
- If you remain away from work, you NEED to be contactable and in a fit state to respond should a major incident be declared.
Day Shifts
- EOC will contact your station manager and/or call the station phone with any exemptions they would like striking staff to consider.
- Information will be taken to the picket line by the station manager OR allocated picket supervisor.
- If a crew would like to accept the exemption call they should:
- Book onto the vehicle.
- Respond to the job.
- Return to the station once the job is complete.
- Book off the vehicle.
- Return to the picket line.
- If you reject the exemption, you will remain on the picket line.
Night Shifts
- EOC will call the station phone with any exemptions they would like striking staff to consider.
- Information about the call will be taken to the striking staff.
- If a crew would like to accept the exemption call, they should:
- Book onto the vehicle.
- Respond to the job.
- Return to the station once the job is complete.
- Book off the vehicle.
- Return to the mess room.
- If you reject the exemption, you will remain on station.
Please remember, you are entitled to change your options throughout the strike.
You do not have to respond to an exemption.
We hope this answers some of your questions.
If your shift is due to end past 0600 on 22nd December 2022 you will need to be at work during this time.
For example, if you are on a 1830 – 0630 shift, and you are planning not to attend work. You MUST be at work at 0600 on the morning of the 22nd December 2022 for the last 30 minutes of your shift.
