Picket Lines – What you need to know – UPDATED

Published 19th December 2022 by GMB EMAS

The “picket line” is not a traditional picket line. We are not trying to stop anyone from attending work whether they be EMAS colleagues or from a shared service.

It is a peaceful demonstration against the Governments intransigence regarding pay and conditions.

Picket lines will be manned from 0700 – 1900 each day of the strike. If you are on strike when there is no picket line (eg at night) you should sit inside your station. Please ensure you do NOT have handheld radios and are NOT booked onto a vehicle while on strike.

You may be requested to take an exemption job by either your station manager or the phone within the station. NOT your handheld radio.

If you accept working the exempt job, you are to book on to a vehicle and you should book off once the job is complete.

If your station is not listed below and you would like to join a picket line, you are able to move to a station with a picket line, however, please let your station manager or TAC know beforehand.

Alternatively, you could form your own picket line outside your station with your colleagues who are also on strike.

If you are not on duty during the strike day when a picket line is formed, we would encourage you to attend the picket line and show your support. As long as the demonstration is peaceful and does not cause an obstruction, we can have as many people as we like.

If you are striking and do not plan to attend a picket line or station, please ensure you inform your local divisional management team before your shift is due to begin 21st December 2022 or 28th December 2022.

Branch Exec and Regional Officer.
