Published 11th December 2024 by GMB EMAS

Nottingham University Hospital Trust and the Nottinghamshire Division are introducing the new 45-minute handover process at Queen’s Medical Centre Emergency Department, starting Thursday, 12th December at 1:00 PM.

Key Points for Colleagues:

  • Handover Time Limit: A maximum of 45 minutes for ambulance handovers.
  • Primary Goal: Reduce wait times and enable faster response to patients in the community.
  • Critical Action: Finalise Electronic Patient Records (EPR) before leaving the department.

What This Means for You:

NHS England are working in partnership with NHS Trusts to streamline patient handovers and improve overall emergency service efficiency.

To support this initiative:

  • Carefully follow the 45-minute handover flow chart sent via email.
  • Complete all EPR documentation thoroughly before departing the ED.
  • Collaborate closely with hospital staff to ensure smooth patient transitions.

This process has been developed by NHS England and being actively rolled out across the country to aid in Ambulance delays at hospitals. GMB@EMAS has been working closely with EMAS to ensure our members remain protected and supported during this rollout.
