NHS Pay Award: Timely, But Still Not Enough

Published 13th February 2026 by Ian Burton

Dear GMB@EMAS Members,

The Government has confirmed the NHS Pay Review Body’s headline recommendation of a 3.3% pay award for health workers across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. For the first time in years, this increase is due to be implemented on time in April.

But while timely, the award is far from enough to address more than a decade of real‑terms pay cuts.

GMB National Secretary Rachel Harrison said:

“GMB welcomes the efforts made to ensure NHS workers will receive their pay increase when it is due, in April — the first time this will have happened in years.

But this award is just not enough to make up for more than a decade of pay cuts under the Tories. NHS workers deserve more and GMB will fight for that at the long overdue Agenda for Change structural talks we have now been promised.

GMB reps will now meet to discuss the pay award and determine next steps.”

Today, the GMB National Ambulance Committee has met to consider the announcement in detail. The committee will be issuing further communications shortly, providing a factual breakdown of the award and outlining what happens next for ambulance workers.

GMB will continue pushing for real pay restoration, meaningful reform of Agenda for Change, and a fair deal for every member across EMAS.
