NHS Pay Award 2025/26: What You Need to Know

Published 22nd May 2025 by GMB EMAS

GMB can now confirm that the Government has formally accepted the NHS Pay Review Body’s (NHSPRB) recommendation for a 3.6% pay uplift for all Agenda for Change (AfC) staff in England. This increase will be consolidated and backdated to 1st April 2025.

This pay award, according to Government statements, delivers a real-terms increase and follows last year’s award. It also comes with a funded mandate for 2026/27, aimed at beginning the long-overdue reform of the AfC pay structure something GMB has consistently called for.

The Government has committed to working with payroll systems to ensure staff receive their back pay from August.

💬 GMB’s Position

While the Government claims this award goes beyond their stated affordability threshold, GMB will be seeking full member input before responding formally.
