Rostering Update:
The GMB continue to engage with EMAS on the rostering consultation and the feedback received for the proposed rostering principles is now being considered. The GMB has provided our own feedback to the rostering group and also the CEO after listening to and supporting our members. As soon as we have further information or an update, we will post it on our website gmbemas.org
FRV Update:
Following talks with EMAS where we raised our objections and concerns, GMB are pleased to report that the Trust has decided to suspend the FRV Consultation process. This has been published in e-News and on our website.
Pay 2026/2025 update:
GMB National representatives met with Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting to commence talks regarding next years’ pay award and other issues within the ambulance service that our members have indicated are important to them, including retirement age and Section 2. The full article can be read here SoS. The National Ambulance Committee has formed a sub-group to commence working on GMBs pay claim for next year. We will not be engaging with the Pay Review Body (PRB) this year, favouring to submit our claim directly to government to negotiate directly with them. Wes Streeting has committed to working more closely with GMB reps, particularly from the ambulance service to help deliver real change quickly. This group includes 2 representatives from the GMB@EMAS Branch and further communications will be posted as soon as they are released.
The Real Living Wage:
The GMB are disappointed that EMAS have chosen to not pay the Real Living Wage to our Band 2 colleagues this year – the first time it has not been paid since 2015. It is especially disappointing as the difference between Band 2 and the Real Living Wage is the lowest it has ever been – only 9 pence per hour:
• Band 2 = £12.51ph
• Real Living Wage = £12.60ph
The Real Living Wage is a voluntary paid wage calculated independently by the Living Wage Foundation to be enough to cover the essentials for a decent standard of living in the UK. This is different to the National Living/Minimum Wage set by the government (currently £12.21ph for those aged over 21).
The GMB is continuing to advocate for staff and campaign for improvements to pay and overall terms and conditions of employment.
ID Cards:
We are aware that a number of colleagues do not have an EMAS ID card. These are essential, not only for identification as an EMAS employee, but also for using Body Worn Cameras and accessing certain stations and EMAS buildings. If you do not have a current EMAS ID card, please complete the online form that can be found on insite by searching for “ID Security Cards” or by speaking to your line manager.

Retrospective Representation
We are unable to provide representation for members who join the GMB after the incident has taken place for which they require our help. Like an insurance policy, GMB are there for you from the start, but you are not covered for something that has already happened. Please advise your colleagues that are not GMB members of this. To join, please follow this link: https://gmbemas.org/dashboard/
Become a GMB Representative
GMB@EMAS always have opportunities for colleagues to become GMB Representatives. If you are interested, please contact us at enquiries@gmbemas.org or speak to your local rep.
We are particularly seeking reps in South Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire.
All new Reps attend a full training course, giving them accreditation as a GMB Representative. In addition to supporting colleagues by providing representation, reps are also invited to Divisional Partnership Forum Meetings where divisional issues are raised and discussed with senior management.
