GMB EMAS are committed to keeping our members updated with the latest information about subjects that affect your work. This is why we are starting a bi-monthly newsletter that will contain key information on campaigns and all things EMAS to keep you in the loop. Below is our first newsletter, if you have any comments or suggestions please contact us on enquiries@gmbemas.org
Pay
The GMB Pay Survey for 2025/26 has now closed. The results have been analysed and form the content of the GMB’s written submission to the NHS Pay Review Body. Our concern that this year’s pay round will be delayed past the April anniversary date has been raised directly to Wes Streeting (Secretary of State) and we look forward to working more closely with our new MPs on issues of importance to GMB members.
GMBs full submission to the PRB can be seen here: https://www.gmb.org.uk/public-services/nhs-and-ambulance/ambulance
Real Living Wage
EMAS advised the GMB that a paper is being produced and will be presented to the EMAS Executive Team in January for consideration about agreeing to pay the Living Wage Foundation’s recommendation for £12.60ph to our lower paid members as they have done previously. The Living Wage Foundation is outside of Agenda for Change and therefore we hope that EMAS agrees to voluntarily sign up again.
Facing Allegations
When an allegation of any form of misconduct is made, full details of the allegation should be disclosed to the subject. Without this, it would be impossible to provide a meaningful response. If you are in a situation where you are asked to give your account of an incident and it is not clear exactly what it is that has been alleged, please seek clarification from HR. Or better still, take a GMB Representative with you to any and all meetings of this nature.
Right of Representation or to be Accompanied
You have the right to be represented or accompanied at any formal meeting held with an EMAS manager or HR. Such as:
- Disciplinary meetings.
- Investigation meetings.
- Dignity and Respect meetings.
- Capability meetings.
- Probationary reviews.
You are also entitled to bring a GMB rep to any informal meeting. Such as:
- Fact find meetings.
- Sickness meetings (excluding welcome back to work meetings).
- Informal clinical case discussions.
- Flexible working meetings.
- And many more
If you are not offered to be accompanied by a GMB Representative, you have the right to request a GMB Representative be present, and meetings can be postponed until it has been arranged.
Please contact us to seek Representation as soon as you are invited to any meeting.
If in doubt, please contact either your local GMB Representative or email enquiries@gmbemas.org
Section 2
The GMB has always been opposed to the introduction of the Section 2 unsocial hours payment scheme. It has been no secret that we have always been in favour of a return to Annex 5 unsocial hours and we will continue to fight for our members. At GMB Congress 2024, the fight against Section 2 formally became a GMB policy – it is not only our Branch that are attempting to resolve this, but it is also happening at a national level and this will always be the case.
