Joint statement on the A&E Rota Review Consultation – provided by Tim Slater (EMAS Deputy Director of Operations), UNISON EMAS, and GMB@EMAS.

Published 16th December 2025 by Paul Bowman

“The Rota Review Consultation for Divisional A&E staff closed on Friday 12 December 2025. The consultation was extended by one week to support all staff to provide feedback via formal channels.

We have agreed to continue our discussions about proposed changes to Fast Response Vehicles (FRVs). Consultation for this element will continue until 19 December 2025. After this point, affected FRV staff will be written to personally, outlining the planned changes and the next steps.

As a collective, we are thankful to everyone who engaged with the Rostering Consultation, and to all leaders who have supported staff to share their views, especially during a period of high demand on EMAS’s service.

The new principles of rostering aim to improve 1) staff wellbeing and safety, 2) patient outcomes, and 3) service delivery and resilience. As the recent update in Enews shows, the close collaboration between EMAS and Trade Unions has allowed us to shape the approach based on your feedback.

Over the coming weeks, we will be working together to review all feedback and finalise EMAS’s Standard Operating Procedures.

The consultation closure document will be finalised and published on Insite in due course. More information will be published in Enews in the coming weeks.”
