EMAS has provided the GMB with data indicating that approximately 80% of the new rotas have been agreed by the colleagues who will be working them. UNISON are supporting this viewpoint.
This position differs significantly from the feedback received from GMB members who responded to our recent survey. Given this clear discrepancy, it is essential that we verify the current position before any final conclusions are drawn.
To support transparency, the data provided by EMAS is published below on a division-by-division basis. At this stage, the proposed changes apply only to front-line A&E and Urgent care crews.
We need to hear from you if you:
- Disagree with your new rota, or
- Believe it has been accepted under duress
We ask that you contact the GMB immediately.
Please email: rotas@gmbemas.org
To help us accurately assess the position, please include:
- Your full name
- Your station
- Your rota team name
- Your view on the acceptance of the rota (including whether you support it, oppose it, or feel it has been agreed under pressure)
Clear and detailed responses are essential to ensure we establish the true position within each affected team.
Our Position on Implementation
We have formally advised EMAS that where there is no clear genuine agreement within a team regarding the new rota, any proposed changes should be paused for a minimum of six months.
This pause would allow:
- Proper determination of the majority position within that team, or
- Further engagement to reach a suitable and sustainable outcome.
In addition, we have made clear to EMAS that the reduction in FRVs and the GMB member indicated objection to the rota principles remain firmly on our agenda to resolve. These matters have not been set aside and continue to form part of our ongoing discussions. EMAS have been made aware that we will move to a formal ballot for Industrial Action if our terms are not met.
Our priority remains ensuring that any changes reflect the genuine views of colleagues, address outstanding concerns, and are implemented fairly.
Further updates will follow once the verification process is complete.
